Capello's men for the World Cup to be decided: Who is on the plane to South Africa?
Por Nicholas DJ
After winning handsomely at Wembley, the spirit in the England dressing room has never been higher than their first-ever World Cup trophy in glorious '66 and the tradition of making everyone fear the Three Lions is in full swing as the 2010 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner for many. The Italian boss has been praised in the media for his superb deployment of tactics, general control of the game and attacking approach towards goal.Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard were the general dominators of midfield as they both netted twice and Wayne Rooney topped off the star-studded performance with a goal in the final 20 minutes of the game. Now having seen what England can do,Capello will now need to choose his team for ahead of the World Cup and see who is on the plane to South Africa.

Here is my squad for South Africa:

Goalkeepers:

David James:

The former Manchester City and Liverpool shot-stopper is holding onto the #1 shirt for now but I still have doubts over him.He is 39 years old now and by the end of the World Cup,he will have reaced his 40s.There is no doubt that the veteraned goalkeeper can still do his job well, but the likes of Ben Foster and Robert Green are not far away from him.

Ben Foster:

I like Foster. And I'm not just saying this because he plays for Manchester United.Foster is a great goalkeeper and e has excelled through the ranks of Manchester United well.It is true that Edwin Van Der Sar is the ultimate #1 for the Red Devils, but Foster's performances of recent times have shown that he actually is going to be a first-team choice for Ferguson after the Dutchman hangs up his boots, allowing him to move into his prime.

Robert Gren:

His performance against Croatia was quite well done. The 29 year old actually performed like a comfortable England #1 and did his job with some good saves and commanding of his area.Since his move from Norwich City in 2006,Green has been hard to beat for the first-choice position, and with over 100 appearances under his belt for the Hammers,he looks like he will be on the plane to South Africa.

Defenders:

John Terry:

England and Chelsea captain. There is no doubt that the Blues skipper will be on that plane to South Africa. He has always been an England regular and been leader for club and country after Becks stepped down and now that he has provided the backline with some great leadership, control and command, the 28 year old is the heart of the England back four.

Rio Ferdinand:

He is also a commander of the backline and has captained England and Manchester United before. Not England captain material but still a good leader in the absence of JT.He has done very well at United and cemented a first-team place and knows that he will be a valuable asset to England's squad ahead of South Africa.

Ashley Cole:

Great defender and is very versatile on the ball.He showed his attacking prowess against Croatia and is able to supply the ball to the wings if needed.A starting left back for England and will partner with Rio and JT in the England backline ahead of South Africa.

Micah Richards:

How this kid is so young but acts like a real veteran is beyond me.Only 21 years of age and yet he is a key player for City.Plays in the centre and on the right,Richards is one of my favourite players, and will turn into a real commander after JT and Rio have passed their time in the England team.

Joleon Lescott:

Recently moved to Manchester City in a £20million deal and is already challenging Kolo Toure and Wayne Bridge for a starting place. This guy is a great cover for Ashley Cole on the left and can really do you some good in some dangerous times.Had he not moved from Everton to City,Jagielka and Lescott would of been the new "Ferdinand-Vidic" or "Terry-Carvalho" or even "Gallas-Toure".The same goes for Toure. He should of stayed at Arsenal. But nevertheless Lescott is a great player and I am sure he will do well in South Africa.

Glen Johnson:

A fierce right-back for England, but has to be weary of his tackling. The former Portsmouth full back was good against Croatia and Slovenia but needs to be careful should he be on that plane to South Africa. If he gets a ban, then that won't necessarily help him be a starting right-back for England, despite the presence of Micah Richards.

Midfielders:

Frank Lampard:

Too underrated for my liking.I really think that Lampard is a world-class player and should be respected by that title, not only in the Premier League, but by the the world.Time and time again has Lampard proven that he should be #1 on that list and time and time again has it not shone through enough.Give the boy some credit. He has achieved so much, gone through so much, and risen to the top time and time again. With Stevie G in midfield, they are unstoppable.

Steven Gerrard:

Led Liverpool to a serious title challenge last season against Manchester United, and although they didn't win the title,Gerrard was their main man. With Gerrard, you have one of the most versatile midfielders in football. He can play as a defensive mid, attacking mid, down the wings or hold centre and still give you 150%.He tackles well, commands the midfield and is like a veteran. With Lamps, they are just too good.

Aaron Lennon:

The follow-up to David Beckham. Not the best crosser,corner-taker or free-kick taker in the world, but has so much pace that it is almost impossible to stop him,and he showed just exactly that vs. Croatia when he was tripped for a penalty.Too dangerous down the wings and provides a high-tempo attack ahead of Roo,Stevie G,Lamps and the rest in time to score a beauty.Should be on the plane to South Africa.

Gareth Barry:

I just cannot think of a better left mid that Gareth Barry.Of course he should of stayed at Aston Villa, but nobody can deny Barry's abilities.Great guy in midfield, supplies the through balls, crosses, aerial passes all the time and is starting to hold down a first-team place on the England line-up.I would be very surprised not to see him on that plane to South Africa.

David Beckham:

I had to go with Becks because Ashley Young or James Milner haven't really impressed me.Yes,they did fantastic for Aston Villa last season but I am still skeptical about them. This is the World Cup,not the U21 European Championships with Stuart Pearce.Beckham has been pandering to the media about him being okay about not being selected for South Africa, but it really is getting on my nerves and he should just shut up sometimes. He has been in three World Cups already and still wants to be in the limelight for his country one more time and, yes,he may be one of the best captains for England - ever, but there's still Shaun Wright-Phillips left to talk about.

Shaun Wright-Phillips:

Just the guy who I was talking about.Just like Lennon, possesses great pace, can dart down those wings so ferociously and  can score a few goals, like how he did for Manchester City and Chelsea. For short,SWP is a great player and will have a chance to shine in South Africa if picked by Capello.

Michael Carrick:

The England and Manchester United midfielder has not played for England many times, but should be good enough to convince Capello about a place on the England line-up.He did well for United vs. Spurs on Saturday in that 3-1 win and is definately a player with great abilities. My choice for the bench.

Strikers:

Wayne Rooney:

Who else that Wayne Rooney.England's favourite wonderkid who shone at Euro 2004 with his performance and has been Manchester United's target man for the past four years. At the age of 24,Rooney is regarded as one of the greatest strikers of English football and has got the aggression, speed, stamina, finishing abilities and determination to take him to so many new heights - if there are any.

Jermaine Defoe:

JD has impressed me and hopefully Capello for Spurs and will be on that plane to South Africa.Has played for Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth and has speed, finishing ability and technique to dazzle defenders and hopefully partner Rooney well for England.

Peter Crouch:

Should be played alongside JD in one of the games in South Africa to show how good they are.Crouchy is the tallest player currently and ever in English football, and standing at 198cm,he could be a real aerial threat for England.Having played for both Tottenham and Portsmouth twice,Crouch's surname doesn't really explain his height.

Theo Walcott:

Not sure if he will actually play as a centre forward for England in the World Cup,but could rather play down the wings for England if given the nod ahead of Aaron Lennon in the group stages or elimination rounds of the World Cup.

Possible Choices:

Owen Hargreaves
Carlton Cole
Joe Cole
Wes Brown
Emile Heskey
Paul Robinson
Phil Jagielka
Gary Neville
Darren Bent
Jermaine Jenas
Stewart Downing
Ledley King
